■English for Science  /Engineering■Overseas Short-term ProgramAn introduction to English for Science/Engineering (Compulsory elective course/optional course) and Overseas Short-Term Program, a course highly recommended by the Faculty of Science and TechnologyLearning in the Faculty of Science and TechnologyTraining content (example)English courses for science and engineering are available in the FST General Subject Group 1. e aim is to endow students with the ability to use English eectively when working in the real world. In order to read literature in foreign languages, present papers at international meetings, participate in international conferences, and promote various agreements and negotiations smoothly, it is necessary to understand clear and concise English without misunderstanding, and to become familiar with terms specic to science and technology. A certicate of completion of Systematic Science and Technology English Education will be issued to students who earn more than 10 credits from the courses listed in the table on the right (English for Science/Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology Programs in English, English elective in language course, etc.) and submit a graduation thesis or other scientic/technical paper in English.e Overseas Short-Term Program is especially designed for science and engineering students. During their three- to four-week overseas experience, students can improve overall communication skills required for research and studies in various elds of science and engineering, discussions, and other activities in English, mainly through language classes, lectures on science and engineering topics, and presentations in English. is is an optional course in the FST General Subject Group, and credits are awarded to students who complete the program.Faculty of Science and TechnologySummer(from August to September)Winter(from February to March)Summer : Program implemented from 2013University of California, DavisWinter : Program implemented from 2011University of North Carolina, Charlotte-UC Davis is known for its English language training program, which is the oldest among the programs oered by the University of California system.
