In the Faculty of Science and Technology, more than 100 faculty members who are in the front lines of their respective research fields contribute to education in English. In the Green Science Program offered by the Department of Materials and Life Sciences, you can learn basic and applied sciences, including physics, chemistry, biology, environmental science, and material science, and acquire both knowledge and skills to overcome several social issues. For example, in my Bio-Physical Chemistry laboratory, we tackle medical and resource issues. We aim to contribute to global society by developing medicines and bio-nanomaterials for the future. Why don't you join us so that we can do science together?You may ask: Why do I need to learn that? Is mathematics really useful? Well, this is my answer. Today, as we are not living in the jungle anymore, the strongest person is not necessarily the most valued person in the society. Now is the age of information. What is valued is the capacity to learn, find, and use information efficiently. Doing math is exactly doing that; you exercise your mind to become smart and be able to learn new topics. Thus, it is your choice whether to pursue studies in mathematics or not. You may discover that math is used in the GPS of your smartphone or whenever you use your bank card through cryptography. You also may be able to use your reasoning ability in another field. Come study with us!Japan is recognized as a world leader in precision engineering and manufacturing technology. Tokyo is known not only for being the center of commerce and industry but for being a technology park for small factories as well, and the small factories have served as the backbone of precision engineering industries in the world.Our research group deals with the development of intelligent manufacturing systems, including machining, plastic working, CAD/CAM, 3D printing, surface texture measurement, and mechatronics. Our focus is on extending cooperation to small factories to support their basic R&D phase.At Sophia University, students are exposed to state-of-the-art manufacturing environment and facilities.
